About Andrew Kahumbu
Honest and Creative Wedding Photography
I’m the youngest of 9 (yes nine!) siblings and I spent the first half of my life living in Kenya surrounded by my huge wonderful family. I grew up riding BMX bicycles, playing squash, birdwatching and going on Safari in the bush. It was fantastic!
My mum and dad made up photo albums for us all as we were growing up and I’d often go through the 9 albums reliving the childhood of my older brothers and sisters. They were much older than me, so it was also a bit of a history lesson. It was a fantastic way to document all our childhoods and made me realise the value of taking photographs and of making and keeping prints.
The beauty of those photographs is that none of them are staged. How could you pose 9 kids?? They’re all unrehearsed snapshots in time that really capture the essence of the occasion. And that’s how I photograph today, live, un-staged and unposed.
Making beautiful memorable images is what I try to do with every single frame I capture for you. There may be a sequence of photos each intimately linked to the next or a total one off moment in time. I’ll capture them all for you to remind you of your amazing day.
Why photograph weddings?
I started with a friends wedding and it turned out pretty well. They loved the images and have them up all over their home. Another one followed a few moths later and it was even better. I was hooked by this point. The storytelling, intimacy, emotion, reunion of friends and family, laughter, tears and dancing had me! I love the evening partying!
I’m not an award winning photographer, but I’ve made all my couples incredibly happy by delivering them beautiful images they can look back on fondly for many years to come. Have a look through my Portfolio and if my style of photography resonates with you and your plans please get in touch and let’s have a coffee or beer and talk.
I feel incredibly lucky and honoured with every wedding booking. An enormous amount of trust goes into documenting every wedding for my couples and I’m delighted and humbled by their kind words.
Here are a few.
Blake Hall Wedding - Hannah and Simon
We just want to say a massive thank you for everything you've done for us during this whole wedding process. Hannah tells me you did a sterling job acting as "bridesmaid", keeping her calm and checking she was ok. Our guests have been so complimentary of you and they really appreciated that you made the effort to get to know people. In fact, a lot of people thought you were a family friend such was your positive relationship with everyone!
Really looking forward to seeing the pictures. We've passed your name onto a lot of people so you may need to get used to coming to Essex...
See you soon
Blake Hall Wedding - Louise (Mother of the Bride)
Just wanted to congratulate you on such a beautiful collection of photos.
You did a fantastic job capturing the happy, warm atmosphere of the day. There are some beautiful shots of Hannah and Simon.
It was a pleasure to meet you on the Saturday evening, seeing you then was a great idea, made everything more relaxing the next day.
Everyone who has seen the pictures has raved over them. They are fabulous. I am sure a lot of hard work has gone into making the collection what it is. What a wonderful keepsake for us.
You have a wonderful talent, a gift of which you should be very proud.
With all best wishes, Louise.

I can't recommend Andy highly enough. He is a brilliant photographer - capturing the best moments of your big day (plus a few more you didn't even notice him shooting). He is a lovely guy, an absolute pleasure to have around. I can't wait for him to take photos of our new baby

Andrew photographed our wedding and we cannot sing his praise highly enough. His style was the perfect way to capture all those fleeting moments that we would have otherwise missed and looking back on the photos really helped us to relive the day. He really captured the essence of the celebration.
