This Hotel Du Vin Edinburgh wedding was special for a whole host of reasons. Shazad, or Shaz for short, is my wife’s cousin and when he proposed to Krys and invited us up to Edinburgh for their wedding there was no way I couldn’t offer to photograph it for them. They also have the cutest cockapoo and were not going to leave her out of the wedding. So Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh was an obvious choice as it is dog friendly. And we could take out dog too!
This was no ordinary Edinburgh wedding though. There was a Mehndi ceremony at Shaz’s family home a couple of days before the wedding at Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh. The Mehndi ceremony is a an ancient tradition of decorating the brides hands and feet with henna before the wedding. Shaz’s family home was transformed into a Mehndi parlour and all the family, Krys and her close friends gathered for the hand painting and a huge meal.
The mehndi artist worked tirelessly and precisely painting beautifully intricate patterns on Krys’ hands and feet then on everyone else’s hands. It was a wonderful evening for everyone, including the dogs, and set the tone for the wedding on Saturday.
Day 2: Hotel Du Vin Edinburgh Wedding
I arrived at the hotel on Saturday morning for the bridal prep which was lovely and relaxed. I got to the room in time for the Processo and a beautiful gift from Shaz to Krys which had her in stitches. Everyone was admiring their mehndi artwork and the commenting on the enormous hotel rooms we’d all just checked in to.
Kry’s grandmother had flown in from Amsterdam the day before and came up to the room to see her. The emotion was off the charts and I captured some lovely moments between them while they chatted.
Shaz was dressed in a full kilt outfit with his brother and best men and they all looked quite amazing. Their registrar for the ceremony also happened to be their friend and she helped settle any nerves. The ceremony was beautiful with Krys’ dad singing a song and her grandmother doing a reading for her.
After the ceremony we all retired to the Whisky Snug for some drinks then a quick dash out to the streets and museum for some photos. The evening reception and dancing had us up till past midnight. It was a long day but the hotel beds were outstanding and we all had the best night’s sleep.
Here’s a quick look at their lovely wedding at Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh.
